Julia here. Today, October 29, is Clover’s birthday! 15 years of perfect pita, crispy chickpea fritters, countless sandwiches that cycle with the seasons, and occasional surprise cupcakes.
How lucky are we?
Although I’ve been working at Clover for a year and a half, this was my first week as CEO.
I’m excited and honored to be stepping into this role. I’ve been a Clover enthusiast for a long time – since my first taste of a Blue Oyster Mushroom sandwich as a grad student in 2013. As COO, and now as CEO, I’m constantly amazed by how much effort, love, and thought goes into every aspect of Clover’s food. Everything from recipe development to ingredient sourcing is perfectly calibrated and lovingly executed to make vegetables so good you’ll dream about them.
In honor of Clover’s birthday, I want to make 3 wishes for the year ahead:
1: That the local farmers who grow our amazing produce will benefit from great weather and growing seasons.
2: That we at Clover will unlock more hidden vegetable delights to add to the Cloververse. Maybe we’ll stumble on unexpected treasures like The Asparagus Sandwich and Pawpaw Whoopie Pies. Could 2024 be the year of The Rutabaga Sandwich or Green Pea Poppers?!
3: That the Clover staff will get the props they deserve for the dedication and tireless good cheer they bring to work. Clover wouldn’t be possible without the bakers, choppers, fryers, and coffee-pourers who make our vegetable dreams a reality every day.
Finally, I want to thank all of our Clover supporters out there. We couldn’t do what we do without all of you. Every sandwich, soup, and Celebration Box you buy demonstrates that together we can reimagine our local food systems and de-carbonize the way we eat.
My greatest focus in the next year will be proving that Clover as a company can lead on these tough challenges in an environmentally sustainable and financially responsible way—and I thank you all for your help on that path!
So Happy Birthday Clover! I hope you can get to one of our locations this weekend, but if you can’t, make sure you at least treat yourself to a good vegetable or two.
(PS: the photo is from Friday’s Birthday Cupcake giveaway in the restaurants – we made carrot cupcakes with buttercream frosting. If you didn’t get a chance to snag one, mark your calendar for next year!)
