I know you all LOVE Picnic and Pantry, the little shop in Union Square’s Bow market. Did you know that Bobby and Alexandra who run it are also behind gâté comme des filles, the chocolate shop in Bow Market. (Go there and try the brownies.) They’re also responsible for Zuzu’s Petals in Inman Square.
A few months back we were looking for somebody to help us make a very special market beneath the roof of our new restaurant in Assembly Row. Something that could feature regional products and produce. We turned to Bobby and Alexandra.
Our goal was for a market that looks like a giant farm stand, but in an urban context. The market is about 350 square feet, which is a pretty good size. We’re focusing on really special food with plenty of staples. So hopefully you’ll find this market is something between a fun food exploration zone and a trusted source for bread, milk, and cheese (real and vegan).
We’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time and now it’s real. The market is entrancing.
PS: that’s Bobby holding the box, and Alex holding the microphone aka scanner, on the first of many “load-in” days for the market.
Want to see the finished product? You’ll have to stop by 330 Foley Street in Somerville : )
